Community opposition can quickly stall the development of affordable and permanent supportive housing. NIMBY is often borne directly out of fear and prejudice of low income or special needs populations. Building local support is integral in getting housing developed. Chris Estes is Executive Director of the North Carolina Housing Coalition, and has written a toolkit on overcoming NIMBY, complete with tools that can help you prepare for community resistance.
