U.S. Senator Burr has been a champion for solutions to end homelessness and permanent supportive housing in congress since 2004. Senator Burr is currently sponsoring legislation that will increase federally funded programs to create more permanent supportive housing options.
The cost of homelessness is high, particularly for those with chronic illnesses, mental health issues and addictions. With no regular place to stay, life on the streets and in shelters exacerbates illness and leads to an inefficient and costly use of a variety of public systems. Providing permenant supportive housing can result in significant cost savings and an improved quality of life.
New North Carolina data shows a 30% cost savings after placing individuals in permanent supportive housing.
Through this type of housing, we're saving money and saving lives.
