Supportive Housing RFP Released
The Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH) has released a Request for Proposals (RFP) to nonprofit organizations (or teams of nonprofit organizations) who can implement cost-effective models of supportive housing connected to coordinated health services for low-income men and women with chronic health challenges who are a) experiencing homelessness or persistent housing crises and b) high-cost users of crisis health services (inpatient hospitalizations, emergency rooms, detox, etc.).
In the first phase CSH will be awarding a total pool of $2.8 million in federal and philanthropic funds to a select group of nonprofits who will bring our supportive housing innovations to life in rigorously evaluated pilot programs. This grantmaking and model development effort is supported by grant funds from the Social Innovation Fund (SIF) and CSH’s philanthropic partners.
Who can apply?
Eligible applicants will be nonprofit organizations with 501(c)3 status from the Internal Revenue Service who are in Good Standing with their states. Teams of non-profit organizations that include providers of supportive housing and providers of primary and behavioral health services may be particularly strong applicants. CSH will select 4 -12 sub-grantees within four different locations, with subgrant awards ranging from $100,000 to $500,000 per year, where larger amounts would be awarded to nonprofits with particularly strong capacity and potential to reach a larger scale with their proposed projects.
What is expected of subgrantees?
Subgrantees will be required to provide a dollar-for-dollar cash match of their grant awards, and must have 25% of this match at the time of the application. In addition to grant funds, CSH will provide subgrantees with implementation technical assistance over the term of the grant period, as well as commissioning and overseeing a rigorous formal evaluation and cost-effectiveness study of subgrantees’ integrated supportive housing and health models. Subgrantees will be required to participate in the evaluation.
When is the grant period?
March 1, 2012 through February 28, 2014, with eligibility to be renewed annually up to five years based on performance and availability of funding.
